Introduction
Model Compare is a feature in Location that makes it possible to compare two versions of the same 3D model (IFC files). Changes are highlighted with color codes – green for new, yellow for modified, and red for removed – giving you a quick overview of what has been added, adjusted, or deleted.
Requirements for Using This Feature
All users with access to Location can use the comparison feature.
Comparisons can only be made between two versions of the same file – not across different models or disciplines.
How to Use It
Go to your project and click “Open Model Compare” in Location.
Select the discipline(s).
Select the versions. You can choose freely among the available versions for each discipline.
Click “Compare” to start.
Changes are automatically visualized in the model with color codes:
Green: New information
Yellow: Modified information
Red: Removed information
Navigate the model as usual.
Click an object to open the right-hand panel, which shows:
Detailed information about the object
Which elements are new, modified, or removed compared to the previous version
Changes may be either geometric (shape) or parametric (properties)
Additional Functionality
Left Panel – Filters and Search
Color Filters:
At the top left, you can filter out changes based on color:
Green: New information
Yellow: Modified information
Red: Removed information
(Disable a color to hide objects with that type of change in the viewer.)
Change Types:
Filter changes by parameter type:Shape / Geometry: Changes in the object’s form or size
Properties / Metadata: Changes in attributes or object information
Discipline:
If multiple disciplines are included in the comparison, you can select which ones to display. Check/uncheck to focus on a specific discipline.Search & Hierarchy:
At the bottom left you’ll find a search field and a hierarchy panel:The search field lets you quickly find specific objects
The hierarchy panel shows the object structure
Click the arrow next to an item to navigate deeper.
Clicking on an object name takes you directly to that object in the viewer.
Numbers with colors on the right side of the panel show how many changes exist within each category or level.
Right Panel – Detail View
The right panel opens when you click an object in the viewer.
Object name: Shown at the top
Display options: Choose to view modified or unmodified values
Modified values:
Colors indicate the type of change:
Green: New information
Red: Removed information
Yellow: Modified values
For yellow (modified) values, two lines are shown:
Line 1: V.1 + value (previous value)
Line 2: V.2 + value (new value)
This makes it easy to see exactly which changes occurred between version 1 and version 2 of the object.
