This guide describes how to use the new room search function in the 3D Model viewer in Location to quickly find the correct room in the model.
1. Start room search
- Open the model in the 3D Viewer in Location.
- On the left, below the 2D drawing icon, you will find a search icon (magnifying glass).
- Click the search icon to enter search mode:
- The model automatically zooms out to a bird’s-eye view.
- A dedicated “Room search” box appears on the screen.
From this box you have two ways to find rooms.
2. Option 1: Text-based search by room name
- Click in the text-based search field in the room search box.
Start typing a room name or parts of a room name.
While you type:
- The list view below the search field is continuously filtered down to rooms that match the text.
- The visualization in the model is updated at the same time so that only the relevant rooms are shown.
- When you have finished typing:
- Click a room in the list.
- The viewer zooms in to this room in the model (still in bird’s-eye view) so you can check if it’s the correct room.
- Check the room:
- Click through the rooms in the list and look in the model until you have found the correct room.
- When the correct room has been found:
- Click “Navigate to 3D”.
- You are then taken “down” and into the actual room in the 3D Viewer.
- Click the search icon (the search closes) to then continue your normal workflow in the model.
3. Option 2: Use suggested rooms
In addition to the free text search field, you will see boxes below the search field. These are search suggestions, representing room types/room names that exist in the model.
- Click one of the suggestion boxes below the search field.
- The system automatically creates a filtered search based on the selected suggestion:
- The list below the search field now shows only rooms that contain this name.
- The same rooms are visualized in the model.
- The further workflow is the same as for the text search:
- Click through the rooms in the list and check their location in the model until you have found the correct room.
- When the correct room has been found, click “Navigate to 3D” to enter the room.
- Click the search icon (the search closes) to then continue your normal workflow in the model.
4. Clear the search and exit search mode
When you are done with a search – or if you change your mind – you can:
- Click “Clear search”:
- You are returned to the bird’s-eye view in the model.
- Any filters in the room search are removed.
- From here you can:
- Close the room search (exit search mode), or
- Start a new search (either via the text field or the suggestion boxes).
You can clear the search at any time to:
- Exit search mode, or
- Start a new room search.
Important limitation
This room search functionality is only available in the 3D Model Viewer in Location. It is not available in other products or tools outside this viewer. It is also important to point out that room search only works for model files that contain information about rooms (IfcSpace). The room search is based on the information found in the IFC files. If there is nothing that refers to rooms, the search button will be grayed out.
