If you encounter issues with unpacking or opening the export file, this is almost always due to an architectural limitation when unpacking in Windows' own unpacking program.
For example, you may receive a message stating that the file is "corrupt."
In these cases, we recommend using the following 64-bit version of free software for unpacking:
WinRAR - https://www.win-rar.com/download.html?&L=0
7-Zip - https://7-zip.org/
NOTE - This is not something Tribia supports or provides; it's simply a recommendation we have seen work.
"I can unpack the file, but I get error messages along the way. Why is that?"
In Windows, there is a maximum path length of 256 characters. (For example, C:\users\myuser\downloads\filename...)
This is a limitation in the operating system and not something Tribia can assist further with.
You can find more information from Microsoft about Windows here.
In the cases where the max path length is reached, unpacking of files and folders may fail. The general recommendation is to unpack from deeper within the folder structure in the .zip file and unpack to the highest root level on your machine, making the file path as short as possible.
This can be done as follows:
1. Right-click the file and choose "Open with," then select the program (WinRAR or 7zip).
2. Now that you're inside the compressed folder, you can navigate as you would in a regular file structure. Locate the folder or file causing the issue and do the following:
For 7zip: Select the file and click on "Extract." You will then see a window where you can choose the location to extract the file. Place it as high as possible in the folder hierarchy, for example, under "My Documents" or "Downloads.", or create a new folder.
WinRAR: Right-click on the file and select "Extract to a specified folder." Then choose a folder located as high as possible in the folder hierarchy, such as "My Documents" or "Downloads.", or create a new folder.
NOTE - In some cases, the file path may still be too long, and in these instances, you can directly rename the file within the compressed folder by right-clicking > "Rename" (Be aware that this may take some time to save, as WinRAR and 7zip will rewrite the entire export).
