Short summary:
1. When the app is opened or you return from other apps, the records are updated automatically.
2. When you go back from lists or detail pages to the workspace (3D/camera), the latest changes are fetched automatically.
3. You never need to press “refresh” – the workspace always shows the most up-to-date information possible.
This guide explains in a simple way how the Capture app behaves when you open it, switch back to it, or navigate within it. You do not need a technical background to understand this.
The goal is that you always see updated information (records) on the home screen.
You will get an introduction to the following:
1.0 The app updates automatically
2.0 When you return to the app (from background to foreground)
3.0 When you open the app again (after it has been completely closed)
4.0 When you go back from a list or detail page
5.0 Summary – what do you need to remember?
1.0 The app updates automatically
Every time the Workspace (3D view or camera) in the Capture app becomes “active” or is displayed on your device, the app will automatically:
- Check for new or changed records.
- Update the 3D view so that all new records with locations are also displayed.
This happens without you needing to press a separate “refresh” button.
The app is updated in these situations:
- When you go from background to foreground (that is, if you come from another app and back to the Capture app without it having been completely closed).
- When you open the app again after it has been closed.
- When you switch projects or workspaces.
- When you go back from a list or detail page to the home screen.
Below, the situations are explained a bit further. These only describe how the app fetches new records or changes to existing records.
To perform a full update of the app – including project setup, template configuration, and updated models/drawings – you need to press Synchronize in the side menu. This is to make the app faster and prioritize which information is checked more frequently.
2.0 When you return to the app (from background to foreground)
Situation:
You have used the Capture app, but then go to another app or lock your phone. Then Capture goes into the “background”. When you later open Capture again:
- When the workspace is displayed, the app will automatically update the records.
- You will then see any new or changed records.
You do not need to do anything yourself – the update happens automatically when you return to the app.
3.0 When you open the app again (after it has been completely closed)
Situation:
- You have completely closed the Capture app, or
- The phone has closed the app automatically (for example, to save battery/memory),
and you open Capture again from the home screen or app list.
When you open Capture again:
- The app starts anew, and when on the workspace, it will automatically fetch and display the latest records.
Here too, the update happens automatically when the app comes up on the workspace.
4.0 When you go back from a list or detail page
Situation:
You have opened a record or a list of records, for example:
- You are viewing details for a single record that was opened from the 3D model.
- You leave the list of records and go back to the workspace.
- You have made changes, saved, or just viewed information.
When you press the “Back” button and return to the workspace:
- The app will then automatically update the records on the workspace.
- Any changes you have made, or new records, will be included in the overview.
5.0 Summary – what do you need to remember?
As a user, you really only need to know this:
- Every time you see the workspace (3D viewer or camera), your records will automatically be updated.
- This happens:
- When you return to the app after using other apps.
- When you open the Capture app again after it has been closed.
- When you go back from a list or detail page to the home screen.
You do not need to:
- Press a separate “refresh” button.
- Close and open the app to get updated information
The app ensures that you always have the most up-to-date overview possible every time you see the workspace.
