Summary
In this user guide, you will learn how to:
1. Getting Started - How to start a documentation process from a 3D model, map, camera, or video.
2. What the Documentation Contains - Understand location, images, description, and parameter fields.
3. Step by Step - Review of the entire creation flow, from location to submission.
This guide shows step by step how to create a Documentation in the Interaxo Capture app.
The following will be covered:
- What is a Documentation
- How to Create a Documentation
- How to Work with a Documentation
- Edit a documentation.
- Typical ways to use documentation.
1.0 What is a Documentation
Documentation is used to show and describe quality, safety, and progress. It shows what has been done, used, not done, or planned – often in the form of text, images, location in the model, video, and completed fields with important information.
The purpose is for you and others to easily understand, reuse, and follow up on the information afterward. In Capture, documentation often consists of recorded observations (text, photo, video), associated metadata (date, location, user, project), and any comments or assessments related to the content.
2.0 How to Create a Documentation
Documentation is selected as the default registration type and is always ready to use – regardless of which work mode you are in. You can start the creation in three ways:
- From the 3D model: Tap an object in the model and select + Create.
- From map view: Tap the + icon, choose a location on the map, and select From location in the popup window.
If the project has access to the Norwegian Map (Norgeskartet), it will automatically search for the nearest road reference when you tap a position on the map. You can then choose between:
- The exact location – the registration is linked to the exact point you tapped
- The nearest road reference – the registration is linked to the nearest road
Note! NVDB access to road references only works with internet access and for Norwegian customers. If you wish to have this connection set up for you, please contact our support department.
-
From camera or video: Take one or more photos/videos and tap Use photo/video.
Once you have performed one of these actions, the documentation template opens where you fill in the remaining information.
The order in which you fill out the fields varies slightly depending on which work mode you started from, but the same fields and steps are included regardless of where you started.
Note: Which fields are displayed and what must be filled out for you to create the documentation is determined by how your project is set up. This can therefore vary from project to project and from customer to customer. Required fields will be clearly marked along the way.
3.0 How to Work with a Documentation
3.1 Fill out the fields
As described above. The order in which you fill out the fields varies slightly depending on which work mode you started from. In the section below, we show the entire workflow for a blank documentation, from top to bottom in the form. This way, you see all the steps that may be part of a documentation process – regardless of whether you started from the model, camera, or video.
*Note: Which fields are displayed and what must be filled out for you to create the documentation is determined by how your project is set up. This can therefore be somewhat different from project to project and from customer to customer. Required fields will be clearly marked during the registration process.
3.2: Set a Location
At the top of the registration form, you will find the section for location. This is an important choice to be able to refer to a specific location in the project.
- Tap + Add location.
- Choose how you want to specify the location:
-
From 3D model – Tap an object in the model. The following information is captured automatically:
- Which location it belongs to
- Object information
- Floor and room information
-
From map – Tap the "+" button, select the desired place on the map, and choose "+ From location" in the popup window. Coordinates and address are saved automatically.
Tip: If the project has access to the Norwegian Map, you can also choose the nearest road reference when you tap a position.
-
From 3D model – Tap an object in the model. The following information is captured automatically:
- When the location is selected, a location image is generated and the location is saved on the registration.
You can change the location later by tapping the location field again.
Note: A registration linked to a model reference cannot be changed to a map reference, and vice versa. The linkage is set when the registration is created.
3.2 Add Images and Videos
The next section is to attach images or video. A visual description of what you observe is important to provide good documentation.
- Tap + to be redirected to the camera.
- Choose whether you want to:
- take one or more photos or videos with the camera, or
- select an existing image from the camera roll.
- Review the selected photos or videos and confirm.
Photos are often central to the documentation, so it is recommended to take clear, relevant photos that show the observation well.
3.3 General Information
The next fields are description and general information. Provide a text-based description of what you observe and what others should know.
-
Description: Tap the text field "Describe registration" and write a short, clear description of what is being documented: what has been done/observed, where in the project it applies (if not clear from the location), and any important context (date, conditions, responsible party, etc.).
- Parameter fields: One or more additional fields at the bottom of the form that make it easier to search, filter, and follow up on the documentation afterward. The fields can be text fields, list selections, or date fields. Tap each field and select a value or enter text. Which parameters you see and whether they are required is controlled by the project setup and can therefore vary from project to project.
Tip: Think that others who were not present should understand the situation just by reading the description and looking at the photos.
After you have selected a location, added at least one photo or video, written a description, and filled in the necessary fields, the Create Documentation button becomes active. Verify that the information is correct, and tap Create Documentation.
The documentation is then saved in the app, marked as a blue circle in the model, and uploaded to the project so that it is also available through Interaxo Capture Web.
4.0 Edit a Documentation
You can open an existing documentation at any time and change fields such as text, images, or location in the model – either via the marker in the model/map or via the registration list:
- Open the documentation you want to change, either from the Registration List or directly from the model.
- Tap the field you want to update (for example, description, images, or location), and enter or select a new value.
- Save the changes.
5.0 Typical Ways to Use Documentation
- Document progress during a project with photos and descriptions directly from the construction site.
- Show that work has been performed in accordance with quality or safety requirements.
- Collect observations with location in the model so they can be easily found and followed up later.
- Lay the foundation for further follow-up by linking the documentation to a deviation or a task.
